Darren Lunny Photography Website

Over the years I’ve created several gallery style websites for architects and photographers. I approached Darren’s website with this prior knowledge and experience, and created a site where the navigation is as minimal and non-intrusive as possible so that the photos can stand out and have the greatest impact. In the past a site such as this would have been built using Flash, however this site was developed entirely in HTML utilising javascript to make it compatible with all devices, particularly ipads and iphones. The site also uses a WordPress based CMS to allow all content to be managed by the client.

New Zealand Timelapses

In addition to the series I posted recently of photos from New Zealand, I also shot several timelapse sequences whilst on the trip. I’ve compiled a selection of them, which includes a couple of standard videos as well.

Happy Holidays & Farewell 2011

I was out in Melbourne town last week shooting some timelapse videos with my brother Shane, and came across a Christmas projection on St Pauls cathedral. When captured as a timelapse the projection looked even better, so I thought I’d post it to my website and make a Christmas card out of it…

I started freelancing full time around March 2010, so 2011 was my first full year flying solo. This year saw a natural progression from working in-house at agencies and design companies in a traditional freelance role, to running a small one man business from my home studio. I’ve been overwhelmed with the positive feedback, support, and opportunities that I’ve been given to work on some great jobs for a diverse range of clients. A big thank-you goes out to everyone I’ve worked with this year.

Whilst there were many projects I enjoyed working on over the course of the year, I’ve put a small selection below of some of my favourites which give a good cross section of the variety of jobs I’ve done. I thought it’d be a good chance for the people I’ve worked with to see what else I’ve been up to…

What’s on for 2012…

Plans for 2012 are already under way. For a start, next year I’ll be launching a small side-business with my brother. I’m also still receiving a lot of positive comments about older work I’ve created, especially Start Running Pico, so I’ve decided to put some time aside to produce another short animation which I’m very excited about (just need to find the time in an already busy schedule!). Other than that, hopefully I’ll get the chance to work on some great projects again. Until then enjoy the Christmas break and have a happy new year!

Victorian Labor MP Websites

After completing the website for Victorian Labor party leader Daniel Andrews, I was approached to create similar websites for Labor MP’s. Using the Labor style guide as a strong visual reference for the design, a WordPress template was created which could be adopted by any MP. The powerful WordPress CMS allows full control over the website content by the MP, including the creation of custom pages, news and media releases, social media integration, and more. Some MP’s who have adopted the website so far include James Merlino, Judith Graley, and Christine Campbell with more to come…

Photography of New Zealand

Recently I returned from a brilliant trip to New Zealand where I travelled from North to South in 3 weeks, passing through a lot of must see sites and a few lesser known places. As an Aussie you’re constantly reminded how beautiful and abundant in nature NZ is, so it’s a place of wanted to visit for a long time but neglected due to being too similar culturally. After just a few hours in the country it was obvious how completely different the landscape is to Australia, and it only improved the further I travelled.

Mixing business with pleasure, I spent a lot of time shooting time lapse videos for a small business I will be launching next year, but along the way I also managed to take a few photos as well. Given how photogenic the country is I didn’t have to work too hard to get a lot of nice landscape shots. Photos in the collection are almost entirely nature shots, and were taken around the Bay of Islands at the top of the north island, the geothermal area around Taupo, the alpine areas in the middle of the south island, and the Fiordlands in the south west.

When I travel I’m always provided with visual stimuli which gives birth to a lot of ideas and can greatly influence the work I create. New Zealand was no exception and reinforced the impact that dramatic and overwhelming landscapes have on us. I’m looking forward to returning in the near future to explore some more!
